This Etro belt is all kinds of awesome, mainly because it looks exactly like something you could find in a thrift store, or possibly a Mexican border town, for $12. It adds just the right touch of tacky, which is often what it takes to make an outfit work. But this non-thrifted belt is gold-plated (why???????), at least partly explaining why it rings in at $1,250. Note to self: keep looking for the thrift store version.

Met Ball...Yawn
The so-called Punk Met Ball was a sartorial farce, but I did enjoy these moments:
The Olsens looking like an alien species:
And Uma letting on that she isn't feeling Miley's look:

A Quintessential J.Crew look.
The skirt incorporates both sequins and a Liberty print;
the top is over-the-top whimsical; the hair perfectly coiffed
yet bizarrely rumpled; the lipstick perky. The only thing
missing from the J.Crew pantheon is a striped top.
Dear Lady Bloggers,
Please do not post new items from J. Crew as though they were "discoveries". We are all well-aware that the company constantly churns out wearable, semi-affordable trendy pieces, and there is a "New Arrivals" section on jcrew.com.
That is all.
Thank you,
The Mayor of Fancytown

The End-All Be-All
These mugs are so awesome it hurts. Back in the 70s everyone who was anyone in Cambridge MA (and every other hippie-intellectual enclave) had some of the mugs-plates-bowls Massimo Vignelli designed for Heller. The white ones were reissued about 15 years ago (I immediately bought a set at Moss) but I was even happier when I found a mismatched multicolored set in a real-live thrift store in Martha's Vineyard. They're stashed who knows where, so I pretty much need to buy these.
Interesting trivia point: in the original mugs the handle seamlessly connected with the inside of the mug--there was no partition at the top of the handle the way there is now. Definitely visually superior, but liquid was sloshing out too much so they "improved" them.

Mick Jagger Cardigan
So, I was just perusing thiswaytofancytown's stats...cause I'm super hardcore techy like that. What?
Anyway, I'd like to send a shoutout to my fans in Russia, Colombia, and Croatia. Where my girls at? What!
But really, the most perplexing issue that my stats raised is that one of the most popular searches that brings visitors to my site is "Mick Jagger Cardigan".
I really don't understand it, but my role here is to serve and not ask why. So, I present Mick Jagger in a cardigan:
