Jolly & Green

This picture keeps turning up on various blogs & sites I visit. Although the greenery here is realistic for someone living with small children (hello, cactus that looks like a bowl full of fuzzy toys), the overall look is great. There is just a great hippie feeling about the abundance and variety of plants (none of them flowering!) and the simple, worn furninshings.

Also, this apartment has a large skylight just like ours, and plenty of sprinkler pipes running across the ceiling, conveniently offering a perfect spot to hang things. Every year I tell myself I'm going to buy a bunch of plants but I never do. What's really absurd is we live only three blocks from the flower district where there is a pretty good selection of plants for sale also.

Maybe 2012 will be the year.

A few comments:
1. Every once in a while areas of my house start to look a bit like that but not in a good way. I'm sure you could do it more purposefully.

2. I truly, truly believed (about 20 - 25 years ago) that I would, in my thirties, be living in a wood paneled condo in with a deck and a ton of hanging plants. And a ton of macrame. And a macrame bikini. If that self had manifested, this would definitely be her city-sister's NYC pad!

3. This has turned up on none of the blogs and sites I visit.
